Transliteration (IAST)

na ca kartavyasāṅkaryamuktād eva hetoḥ kriyā karaṇakāryā mukhyaṃ ca gamanādīnāṃ kriyātvaṃ na rūpādyupalambhasya tasya kāṇādatantre guṇatvāt tasmāt avaśyābhyupeyaḥ karmendriyavargaḥ

— from the (reasoning) already stated about the non-confusion of things-to-be-done ; — produced by an instrument ; — of going and the like ; — the status of being action proper ; — of the perception of color and the like ; — in the system of Kaṇāda (Vaiśeṣika) ; — the group of action-faculties

Nor (is this objectionable), for by the very reasoning already given about the non-confusion of things-to-be-done, action is produced by an instrument. And it is going and the like that are action in the principal sense, not the perception of color and the like — since in the Vaiśeṣika system that (perception) counts as a quality. Therefore the group of action-faculties must necessarily be admitted.
