7.4

चिन्तामणिरविज्ञातो भवेच्चिन्तामणिः स्फुटम् । तथापि कार्यभोगार्थं स ज्ञातः केन वार्यते ॥४॥

cintāmaṇiravijñāto bhaveccintāmaṇiḥ sphuṭam | tathāpi kāryabhogārthaṃ sa jñātaḥ kena vāryate

— the wish-granting gem ; — unrecognized ; — would be ; — a wish-granting gem ; — plainly ; — nevertheless ; — for the sake of its effect and enjoyment ; — its being known ; — by whom is it precluded?

An unrecognized wish-granting gem (cintāmaṇi) would plainly (still) be a wish-granting gem; nevertheless, for the sake of (obtaining) its effect and enjoyment, by whom is the recognizing of it to be precluded (— recognition unlocks its fruit)?
