सामान्याभावतस्तर्हि भवतो नानुमानता । सा भविष्यत्यपोहेन सोऽपि केनोपपद्यते ॥७७॥
sāmānyābhāvatastarhi bhavato nānumānatā | sā bhaviṣyatyapohena so'pi kenopapadyate
— from the absence of a (real) universal ; — then ; — for you ; — there is no inference ; — 'it will obtain' ; — through exclusion (apoha) ; — that (exclusion) too ; — by what is it accounted for?

Then, from the absence of a (real) universal, for you (Buddhist) there can be no inference. (If you say) 'it will obtain through exclusion (apoha)' — that (exclusion) too, by what is it accounted for (since exclusion presupposes the very thing excluded)?
