सर्वत्र देवतात्मत्वाज्जडेष्वप्युपवर्णिता । पोतादेश्चेदुपायेन दृष्टे दीपाद्युपायता ॥८१॥
sarvatra devatātmatvājjaḍeṣvapyupavarṇitā | potādeścedupāyena dṛṣṭe dīpādyupāyatā
— everywhere ; — because of (their) having a deity for self ; — even in insentient things ; — (consciousness) is described ; — of a boat and the like ; — if (you say it operates) ; — by a means ; — in the seen (case) ; — the instrumentality of a lamp and the like

Everywhere, because (all things) have a deity for their self, consciousness is ascribed even to insentient things; and if (you say that) a boat and the like (operates) by some (external) means — (well,) in the observed (case the same holds), as with the instrumentality of a lamp and the like (which is yet pervaded by consciousness).
