शब्दैरर्थाः प्रतीयन्ते सर्वत्रैवं क्व निश्चयः ।
स्फोटादर्थप्रतीतिश्चेद् व्यज्यते तैः क्व निर्णयः ॥६५॥
śabdairarthāḥ pratīyante sarvatraivaṃ kva niścayaḥ |
sphoṭādarthapratītiśced vyajyate taiḥ kva nirṇayaḥ
(If) meanings are cognized by words everywhere thus — where (then) is (any independent) certainty (about objects)? And if (you say) the cognition of meaning arises from the sphoṭa, (which is) manifested by them (the sounds) — where (then) is the settled conclusion (save in consciousness)?
