महान्तं धूममुत्पाद्य तत्कालं वारिणा हतः । तत्र केवलधूमास्था न वह्निप्राप्तिरस्ति ते ॥५९॥
mahāntaṃ dhūmamutpādya tatkālaṃ vāriṇā hataḥ | tatra kevaladhūmāsthā na vahniprāptirasti te
— a great (volume of) smoke ; — having produced ; — at that very moment ; — with water ; — quenched ; — there ; — the persistence of smoke alone ; — not the obtaining of fire ; — is yours (i.e. holds for you)

Having produced a great volume of smoke, (the fire is) at that very moment quenched with water; there (only) the persistence of smoke alone (remains), and (no) obtaining of fire is yours (— the inference would mislead).
