5.58

धूमादग्निप्रतीतिश्च न चायं नियमः स्थितः । कक्षभूर्जादिजो वह्निर्गुहाकारे ज्वलन् गृहे ॥५८॥

dhūmādagnipratītiśca na cāyaṃ niyamaḥ sthitaḥ | kakṣabhūrjādijo vahnirguhākāre jvalan gṛhe

— from smoke ; — and the cognition of fire ; — and not ; — this fixed rule ; — is established ; — arising from grass, birch-bark and the like ; — fire ; — in a cave-like (place) ; — blazing ; — in a house

And the cognition of fire from smoke — this (alleged) fixed rule is not established; (consider) a fire arisen from grass, birch-bark and the like, blazing in a cave-like house (and what follows).
