The Vision of Śiva5.55

5.55
स्वार्थानुमानं नैवं चेन्न शब्दैरन्तरे स्थितम् । अग्निरेषोऽत्र धूमो वा दर्शयेन्न ह्यदर्शने ॥५५॥
svārthānumānaṃ naivaṃ cenna śabdairantare sthitam | agnireṣo'tra dhūmo vā darśayenna hyadarśane
— inference for oneself ; — is not so (constituted) ; — if (you object) ; — not ; — by words ; — within ; — established ; — 'this is fire' ; — here ; — or 'smoke' ; — could it show ; — surely not ; — when there is no (prior) seeing

If (you object that) inference-for-oneself is not so constituted (by words) — (yet even there) it does not stand established within (the mind) by words (alone); (for) 'this here is fire' or 'smoke' — how could (such a verbal determination) reveal (anything) when there is no (prior direct) seeing?
