5.51

नचापि वह्निर्जनकः काष्ठेष्वेव हि दर्शनात् । अत एव यत्र वह्निर्भास्वान्नो धूमिताऽत्र तु ॥५१॥

nacāpi vahnirjanakaḥ kāṣṭheṣveva hi darśanāt | ata eva yatra vahnirbhāsvānno dhūmitā'tra tu

— nor even ; — fire ; — the (sole) producer (of smoke) ; — only in (wet) wood and the like ; — from observation ; — for this very reason ; — where ; — fire ; — bright (blazing) ; — not (there is smoke) ; — smokiness ; — but here

Nor is fire the (sole) producer of smoke, since (smoke) is observed (to arise) only in (damp) wood and the like; and for this very reason, where the fire blazes bright, there is no smokiness at all (so the pervasion fails).
