धूमात्तत्र गृहीतं किं सामान्यं नैव गृह्यते ।
अग्राह्यत्वात्तस्य तदा विशेषे दूरतैव ते ॥४५॥
dhūmāttatra gṛhītaṃ kiṃ sāmānyaṃ naiva gṛhyate |
agrāhyatvāttasya tadā viśeṣe dūrataiva te
From smoke what is grasped there? The universal (smokiness as such) is not grasped at all, owing to its ungraspability; and then, in the case of the particular (fire), there is for you only remoteness (— no determinate inferential link).
