5.20
प्रत्येकं परमाणौ चेच्चैतन्येऽनेकचेतनाः । घटादयः प्रसज्यन्ते प्रमाणुकथा नहि ॥२०॥
pratyekaṃ paramāṇau ceccaitanye'nekacetanāḥ | ghaṭādayaḥ prasajyante pramāṇukathā nahi
— in each one ; — in an atom ; — if (you say) ; — there is consciousness ; — having a plurality of sentient (centers) ; — pots and the like ; — would result ; — the doctrine of (ultimate) atoms ; — (holds) not at all

If (you object that) consciousness be in each single atom — then pots and the like would (each) turn out to have a plurality of sentient centers; (but for us) the doctrine of (independent) atoms (as ultimate reals) does not hold at all (so this consequence does not arise).
