प्रकाशज्ञानजननाज्जनः कर्ता जडे कथम् । जडेन व्यज्यते नापि चैतन्यमजडात्मकम् ॥१३॥
prakāśajñānajananājjanaḥ kartā jaḍe katham | jaḍena vyajyate nāpi caitanyamajaḍātmakam
— from the generation of luminous knowledge ; — a person ; — an agent ; — in the insentient ; — how (could there be agency)? ; — by the insentient ; — is manifested ; — nor ; — consciousness ; — whose nature is non-insentient

A person is an agent by reason of generating luminous knowledge; how (could there be) agency in (the truly) insentient? Nor can consciousness, whose very nature is non-insentience, be manifested by the insentient (— so where agency appears, consciousness is present).
