क्षणिकत्वेन शब्दानामनभिव्यक्तितोऽपिवा । स्फोटाभिव्यंग्यपक्षे तु तत्रापि क्रमता कथम् ॥९७॥
kṣaṇikatvena śabdānāmanabhivyaktito'pivā | sphoṭābhivyaṃgyapakṣe tu tatrāpi kramatā katham
— by reason of the momentariness ; — of the sound-units ; — because of (their) non-manifestation (together) ; — or also ; — on the view that the sphoṭa is what is manifested ; — but ; — even there ; — successiveness ; — how?

Whether (because) the sound-units are momentary, or because (the units never) manifest (together) — and on the view that the sphoṭa is what is (severally) manifested, how, even there, (could meaning arise) through (mere) succession (without a unifying awareness)?
