4.89
यावन्न वह्निकलना न योगकलना भवेत् । यावद्वा योगकलना न वह्निकलनाक्षमा ॥८९॥
yāvanna vahnikalanā na yogakalanā bhavet | yāvadvā yogakalanā na vahnikalanākṣamā
— so long as not ; — the cognizing of fire ; — no cognizing of (their) connection ; — would be ; — or so long as ; — the cognizing of (their) connection ; — not ; — capable of (yielding) the cognizing of fire

For so long as there is no cognizing of fire, there can be no cognizing of (its) connection; and so long as (there is no) cognizing of the connection, (the sight of smoke) is not capable of yielding the cognizing of fire (— hence the vicious circle).
