4.68
बौद्धस्य चेन्न सामान्यमनुमानं निवर्तते । यथा सुवर्णभाण्डेषु न तथा हेमताम्रयोः ॥६८॥
bauddhasya cenna sāmānyamanumānaṃ nivartate | yathā suvarṇabhāṇḍeṣu na tathā hematāmrayoḥ
— of the Buddhist ; — if (you say) ; — there is no universal ; — inference ; — ceases (would fail) ; — just as ; — among gold vessels ; — not so ; — between gold and copper

If, with the Buddhist, there be no (real) universal, inference would fail — for (the cognition that runs uniformly) among gold vessels is not like (the cognition) holding between gold and copper (so something real must ground the recurrence).
