4.48
स्वयम् च न प्रजायेत केनान्येन प्रजन्यते । व्यतिरिक्तेन कर्त्राद्या यदि स्युस्ते तदात्मकाः ॥४८॥
svayam ca na prajāyeta kenānyena prajanyate | vyatiriktena kartrādyā yadi syuste tadātmakāḥ
— and of itself ; — would not be generated ; — by what other ; — is it generated? ; — by something separate ; — agent and the rest (the factors) ; — if they should be ; — they ; — have him for their self

And (the effect) cannot generate itself, (yet) by what other could it be generated by something (truly) separate? If agent and the other factors exist (at all), they (too) have him for their very self.
