नैवमक्षार्थसंयोगमात्रात् किं बोद्धुरुद्यमः । संयोगेऽन्यस्य सञ्जाते कथमन्यस्य बोद्धृता ॥१०२॥
naivamakṣārthasaṃyogamātrāt kiṃ boddhurudyamaḥ | saṃyoge'nyasya sañjāte kathamanyasya boddhṛtā
— not so ; — from the mere contact of sense and object ; — what ; — of the cognizer ; — exertion ; — when contact ; — of one (the sense-organ) ; — has arisen ; — how ; — of another (the self) ; — the status of cognizer

It is not so: from the mere contact of sense and object, what exertion (could be ascribed) to a (separate) cognizer? When the contact has arisen for one (the sense-organ), how is there cognizer-hood for another (the self, unless self and senses are not truly separate)?
