बन्धमोक्षाद्यभावेन निर्मलोऽत्र करोति किम् ।
नच वा प्रत्ययं गच्छेत् झटित्येकोक्तिमात्रतः ॥९६॥
bandhamokṣādyabhāvena nirmalo'tra karoti kim |
naca vā pratyayaṃ gacchet jhaṭityekoktimātrataḥ
(Were the self taught as) pure, through the absence of bondage, liberation and the rest — what would (the seeker) do here (lacking any path)? And one would not reach conviction at once from a single bare statement (— so the graded teaching has its purpose).
