दीपचक्षुः क्रमफलदर्शनात्तदबाधकम् । भावे कथं विनाशित्वं स्याद्विना कारणान्तरम् ॥४९॥
dīpacakṣuḥ kramaphaladarśanāttadabādhakam | bhāve kathaṃ vināśitvaṃ syādvinā kāraṇāntaram
— lamp and eye ; — from the seeing of a successive result ; — that is no contradiction ; — in an existent thing ; — how ; — perishability ; — could there be ; — without a further cause (of destruction)

Lamp and eye (yield cognition); and from the seeing of a result in succession, that (instrumentality) is no contradiction (to the self's abiding agency). (But) how could there be perishability in an existent thing without a further cause (to destroy it)?
