5.68

न भांडे शक्यते धूमः प्रवेष्टुं वह्निवर्जिते । तस्माद्वर्णनिकैवेयं परस्यान्ध्याय कल्पिता ॥६८॥

na bhāṃḍe śakyate dhūmaḥ praveṣṭuṃ vahnivarjite | tasmādvarṇanikaiveyaṃ parasyāndhyāya kalpitā

— not ; — in a vessel ; — is able ; — smoke ; — to enter ; — devoid of fire ; — therefore ; — a mere verbal description ; — this ; — of the opponent ; — to (his own) blinding ; — is contrived

(Just as) smoke cannot enter a vessel devoid of fire (yet appears to), therefore this (whole doctrine of inference) is a mere verbal fabrication, contrived (only) to the (further) blinding of the opponent.
