5.18
घटादेर्भवता ज्ञातमाचैतन्यं कथं यदि । चेष्टोन्मेषाद्यभावात्तन्मूर्च्छिते किं करिष्यसि ॥१८॥
ghaṭāderbhavatā jñātamācaitanyaṃ kathaṃ yadi | ceṣṭonmeṣādyabhāvāttanmūrcchite kiṃ kariṣyasi
— of a pot and the like ; — by you ; — known (to be) ; — insentience ; — how? ; — if ; — from the absence of striving, opening (of eyes) and the like ; — then ; — in (the case of) one fainted ; — what will you do?

If (you say) the insentience of a pot and the like is known by you — how (is it known)? If (you say) from the absence of striving, opening of eyes and the like — then in the case of a person fainted (who also shows none of these) what will you do (— must you call him insentient too)?
