अपूर्वयोर्गृहीतेऽपि तत्कालं गतयोर्द्वयोः ।
अगृहीते न गृहीतः सम्बन्धोऽग्निः प्रतीयते ॥८४॥
apūrvayorgṛhīte'pi tatkālaṃ gatayordvayoḥ |
agṛhīte na gṛhītaḥ sambandho'gniḥ pratīyate
Of the two (momentary smokes and fires) that were never (jointly) given before, even when each is grasped at its own moment, the two have (already) passed; (so) while the relation (itself) remains ungrasped, by an ungrasped relation (alone) fire is supposedly inferred (— which is impossible on the momentarist's terms).
