बाह्यं रूपादि जल्पन्ति प्रमाणं चोदनैव ते । नियमाद्धर्मविषये तस्मान्नैकेन तुल्यता ॥४०॥
bāhyaṃ rūpādi jalpanti pramāṇaṃ codanaiva te | niyamāddharmaviṣaye tasmānnaikena tulyatā
— external ; — form and the rest ; — they prattle (assert) ; — (as) means of valid knowledge ; — scriptural injunction alone ; — they (the Mīmāṃsakas) ; — by rule ; — in the domain of dharma ; — therefore ; — there is no parity on one (point)

They (the Mīmāṃsakas) prattle that form and the rest are external, (and hold) that injunction alone is the means of valid knowledge, restricted by rule to the domain of dharma; therefore on that one point there is no parity (between their position and ours).
