3.46
तथैव स्यादथोच्येत वह्नेः संस्कारचोदना । शास्त्रेषु वर्णिता कस्मात्कार्यार्थं कार्यमेव तत् ॥४६॥
tathaiva syādathocyeta vahneḥ saṃskāracodanā | śāstreṣu varṇitā kasmātkāryārthaṃ kāryameva tat
— just so ; — it would be ; — now (if) ; — it were said ; — of fire ; — the injunction of purification ; — in the scriptures ; — described ; — why ; — for the sake of a purpose ; — a mere expedient ; — that

Just so it would be (with all things). Now if it be asked why the injunction to purify fire is described in the scriptures — (we answer) that is (done) merely as an expedient, for a (practical) purpose.
