पश्यन्तं सा किमात्मानं पश्यन्ती जडमेव वा । जडे जडत्वमेवास्याः पश्यतो ह्यनवस्थता ॥५६॥
paśyantaṃ sā kimātmānaṃ paśyantī jaḍameva vā | jaḍe jaḍatvamevāsyāḥ paśyato hyanavasthatā
— the seeing one ; — she ; — whether ; — herself ; — seeing ; — or the merely insentient ; — or ; — in the case of the insentient ; — insentience itself ; — for her ; — of the seer seeing (a seer) ; — indeed ; — infinite regress

Does she, seeing, see herself as a seer, or as merely insentient? In the case of the insentient (object), insentience itself (attaches) to her; and (if she sees herself as) a seer (seeing a seer), an infinite regress (ensues).
