नहि तस्या निमित्तं वा कारणं समवायि वा ।
निमित्तत्त्वे पृथक्त्वं स्यात्समवाये तदात्मता ॥३९॥
nahi tasyā nimittaṃ vā kāraṇaṃ samavāyi vā |
nimittattve pṛthaktvaṃ syātsamavāye tadātmatā
For (Paśyantī) has neither an efficient cause nor an inherent material cause (for Madhyamā): if (the cause were) efficient, separateness would result; if inherent, identity with it (would result — and either way her supreme unity is broken).
