तत्तदाकस्मिकाभासो बाह्यं चेद् अनुमापयेत्
न ह्य् अभिन्नस्य बोधस्य विचित्राभासहेतुता ॥४॥
tattadākasmikābhāso bāhyaṃ ced anumāpayet
na hy abhinnasya bodhasya vicitrābhāsahetutā
— the sudden appearance of this and that (variegated content); — an external (object); — if (it be argued); — should make (us) infer; — not (so); — for; — of (consciousness which is) undivided; — of consciousness; — the being a cause of variegated appearances
If it be argued that the sudden appearance of this and that (variety) should make us infer an external object — that is not so, for undivided consciousness cannot of itself be the cause of variegated appearances.
