अथार्थस्य यथा रूपं धत्ते बुद्धिस् तथात्मनः चैतन्यम् अजडा सैवं जाड्ये नार्थप्रकासता ॥८॥
athārthasya yathā rūpaṃ dhatte buddhis tathātmanaḥ caitanyam ajaḍā saivaṃ jāḍye nārthaprakāsatā
— now (further) ; — of the object ; — just as ; — form, image ; — assumes, takes on ; — the intellect, the cognition ; — so too ; — of the Self ; — the (form of) consciousness ; — (being) non-insentient ; — it (the intellect) ; — thus ; — if there be insentience ; — not, there could be no ; — the illumining of objects

Now, just as the intellect takes on the form of an object, so too it takes on the consciousness of the Self; being thus non-insentient it (reveals the object). Were there insentience, there could be no revealing of objects.
