तथा हि जडभूतानां प्रतिष्ठा जीवदाश्रया
ज्ञानं क्रिया च भूतानां जीवतां जीवनं मतम् ॥४॥
tathā hi jaḍabhūtānāṃ pratiṣṭhā jīvadāśrayā
jñānaṃ kriyā ca bhūtānāṃ jīvatāṃ jīvanaṃ matam
— for indeed, to explain; — of insentient beings (things); — foundation, established existence; — dependent on a living being (as its support); — knowledge, cognition; — action; — and; — of beings, of creatures; — of the living; — the life, the vitality; — is held (to be), is considered
For the established existence of insentient things rests upon a living being; and knowledge and action are held to be the very life of living creatures.
