5.16

जानन् कर्तारमात्मानं घटः कुर्यात् स्वकां क्रियाम् । अज्ञाते स्वात्मकर्तृत्वे न घटः सम्प्रवर्तते ॥१६॥

jānan kartāramātmānaṃ ghaṭaḥ kuryāt svakāṃ kriyām | ajñāte svātmakartṛtve na ghaṭaḥ sampravartate

— knowing ; — itself as agent ; — the pot ; — would perform ; — its own action ; — when not known ; — its own agency ; — not ; — the pot ; — engages in activity

Knowing itself as agent, the pot performs its own action; (for) when its own agency is not (somehow) known (to it), the pot does not engage in (its proper) activity (of holding water and so on).
