वाच्यवाचकरूपश्चेत्स एष नियमः कुतः ।
यत्तस्य वाचकत्वं हि वाच्यत्वमपरस्य तु ॥७९॥
vācyavācakarūpaścetsa eṣa niyamaḥ kutaḥ |
yattasya vācakatvaṃ hi vācyatvamaparasya tu
If (you say there is a) fixed signified-signifier relation — whence (comes) this very restriction, that for this one there is the status of signifier, while for the other (there is only) the status of being signified (— no ground for it lies outside consciousness)?
