आत्मानमात्मना हन्ति देवदत्तो यथा यथा । भविष्यत्यत्र तत्रास्य स्वाङ्गैरेव विभागिता ॥५३॥
ātmānamātmanā hanti devadatto yathā yathā | bhaviṣyatyatra tatrāsya svāṅgaireva vibhāgitā
— oneself ; — by oneself ; — strikes ; — Devadatta (a stock proper name) ; — just as ; — it will be ; — here ; — there ; — of him ; — by his own limbs alone ; — differentiation

Just as when Devadatta strikes himself with himself, here and there a differentiation arises through his own limbs alone (— so too the seeming self-seeing of Paśyantī requires internal division).
