अणुर् नाम किल चिदचिद्रूपावभास एव तस्य चिद्रूपम् ऐश्वर्यम् एव अचिद्रूपतैव मलः तस्य च सृजतः परमेश्वरेच्छामयं तत एव च नित्यं स्रक्ष्यमाणवस्तुगतस्य रूपस्य जडतयाभासयिष्यमाणत्वात् जडं सकलकार्यव्यापनादिरूपत्वाच् च व्यापकं मायाख्यं तत्त्वम् उपादानकारणं तदवभासकारिणी च परमेश्वरस्य माया नाम शक्तिस् ततो ऽन्यैव

aṇur nāma kila cidacidrūpāvabhāsa eva tasya cidrūpam aiśvaryam eva acidrūpataiva malaḥ tasya ca sṛjataḥ parameśvarecchāmayaṃ tata eva ca nityaṃ srakṣyamāṇavastugatasya rūpasya jaḍatayābhāsayiṣyamāṇatvāt jaḍaṃ sakalakāryavyāpanādirūpatvāc ca vyāpakaṃ māyākhyaṃ tattvam upādānakāraṇaṃ tadavabhāsakāriṇī ca parameśvarasya māyā nāma śaktis tato 'nyaiva
The soul, indeed, is just the appearing of both a sentient and an insentient form: its sentient form is its very sovereignty, while its having an insentient form is the impurity. And of this soul, which is being created and consists of the Supreme Lord's will, precisely for that reason the form belonging to the thing eternally about to be created must be made to appear as insentient; therefore there is the insentient, all-pervading principle called Māyā — pervading because its nature is to pervade all effects and so on — which is the material cause. And she who causes that (Māyā-principle) to appear, the Lord's power named Māyā, is something quite other than it.
