3.13

तद् एतद् वर्णचतुष्टयम् उभयच्छायाधारित्वात् नपुंसकम् ऋ ॠ ऌ ॡ इति

Transliteration (IAST)

tad etad varṇacatuṣṭayam ubhayacchāyādhāritvāt napuṃsakam ṛ ṝ ḷ ḹ iti

— this tetrad of phonemes ; — because it bears the tinge of both (Light and repose) ; — neuter (neither masculine nor feminine), barren
