तत्राकाशे स्थितो धूमो न वह्नेः कणमात्रकम् । धूमेन व्यापितो देशो भवेदग्निमयोऽखिलः ॥४८॥
tatrākāśe sthito dhūmo na vahneḥ kaṇamātrakam | dhūmena vyāpito deśo bhavedagnimayo'khilaḥ
— there ; — in the sky ; — standing ; — the smoke ; — not ; — of fire ; — even a particle ; — by the smoke ; — pervaded ; — the region ; — would (otherwise) become ; — made of fire ; — entire

The smoke standing there in the sky is not even a particle of fire; (else) the entire region pervaded by smoke would (have to) be made of fire (which it is not).
