इदम् एतादृगित्येवं यद् वशाद् व्यवतिष्ठते
वस्तु प्रमाणं तत् सो ऽपि स्वाभासो ऽभिनवोदयः ॥१॥
idam etādṛgityevaṃ yad vaśād vyavatiṣṭhate
vastu pramāṇaṃ tat so 'pi svābhāso 'bhinavodayaḥ
— 'this (is) of such a kind'; — thus, in this form; — by the force of which; — becomes definitely established; — a (real) thing; — that (is) the means of valid knowledge; — that; — and it too; — a self-luminous appearance; — newly arisen
That by force of which a thing becomes definitely established as 'this is of such a kind' is the means of valid knowledge (pramāṇa); and it too is a self-luminous appearance, newly arisen.
