11.22

ननु सो ऽपि अब्रुवन् विपरीतं वा ब्रुवन् किं न त्याज्यः नैव इति ब्रूमः तस्य हि पूर्णज्ञानत्वात् एव रागाद्यभाव इति अवचनादिकं शिष्यगतेनैव केनचित् अयोग्यत्वानाश्वस्तत्वादिना निमित्तेन स्यात् इति तदुपासने यतनीयं शिष्येण न तत्त्यागे

Transliteration (IAST)

nanu so 'pi abruvan viparītaṃ vā bruvan kiṃ na tyājyaḥ naiva iti brūmaḥ tasya hi pūrṇajñānatvāt eva rāgādyabhāva iti avacanādikaṃ śiṣyagatenaiva kenacit ayogyatvānāśvastatvādinā nimittena syāt iti tadupāsane yatanīyaṃ śiṣyeṇa na tattyāge

— but surely (objection) ; — not speaking (not teaching) ; — or speaking contrarily (teaching wrongly) ; — to be forsaken ; — because of his being of full knowledge ; — the absence of passion and the like ; — residing solely in the disciple ; — such as unworthiness, lack of confidence, and the like ; — by reason (cause) ; — effort should be made in serving him

But surely — should not even he be forsaken if he does not teach, or teaches wrongly? Not at all, we say. For by reason of his very fullness of knowledge there is in him the absence of passion and the like; thus his not-teaching and so forth must be due to some cause residing solely in the disciple — such as unworthiness, lack of confidence, and the like. Therefore the disciple should make effort in serving him, not in forsaking him.
