नाप्याप्तवचनग्राह्यः सामान्याद्वा विशेषतः ।
सामान्यादनुमानोक्तदूषणं तद्विशेषतः ॥७२॥
nāpyāptavacanagrāhyaḥ sāmānyādvā viśeṣataḥ |
sāmānyādanumānoktadūṣaṇaṃ tadviśeṣataḥ
Nor is (the object) graspable by the word of a reliable person — whether by way of the universal or by way of the particular: by way of the universal, the (same) fault stated in (the case of) inference (applies); by way of the particular (the next verse shows the difficulty).
