पुरा शान्तस्वरूपत्वं पश्चात्तादृगवस्थितिः । शान्ते शिवत्वं स्थूलेऽपि शिवत्वं यत्र वर्णितम् ॥५५॥
purā śāntasvarūpatvaṃ paścāttādṛgavasthitiḥ | śānte śivatvaṃ sthūle'pi śivatvaṃ yatra varṇitam
— formerly ; — being of tranquil essence ; — afterward ; — of such a (active) kind ; — condition ; — in the tranquil ; — Śiva-hood ; — even in the gross ; — Śiva-hood ; — where ; — is taught

(Objection:) Formerly (he was) of tranquil essence, afterward (in) such an (active) condition; (yet) where Śiva-hood is taught (to reside) in the tranquil, it is also (taught to reside) even in the gross.
