इति देव्या वचः शृत्वा शङ्करो लोकशङ्करः । कथयामास तत्त्वेन महाकारुण्यवारिधिः ॥१॥
iti devyā vacaḥ śṛtvā śaṅkaro lokaśaṅkaraḥ | kathayāmāsa tattvena mahākāruṇyavāridhiḥ ||1||
— thus ; — of the goddess ; — the words ; — having heard ; — Śaṅkara ; — benefactor of the world ; — told, declared ; — truly, in truth ; — the ocean of great compassion

Thus having heard the goddess's words, Śaṅkara, benefactor of the world, the ocean of great compassion, declared the truth.
