athātraiva jāgradādyavasthā nirūpyante tatra vedyasya tadviṣayāyāś ca saṃvido yat vaicitryam anyonyāpekṣaṃ sat sā avasthā na vedyasya kevalasya na cāpi kevalāyāḥ saṃvido na cāpi pṛthak pṛthak dve

— the states beginning with waking ; — they are set forth, they are examined ; — of the object (the known) ; — of the consciousness that has that as its object ; — the variegation, the diversity ; — mutually dependent ; — the state, the condition ; — of the isolated (object) alone ; — the two (taken) separately

Now, in this very connection, the states beginning with waking are examined. Therein, the variegation belonging to the object and to the consciousness that has it as its object, being mutually dependent — that is the state. It is not of the isolated object alone, nor of the consciousness alone, nor yet of the two taken separately.
