3.22

इच्छाया एव त्रिविधाया य र लाः उन्मेषात् वकारः इच्छाया एव त्रिविधायाः श ष साः विसर्गात् हकारः योनिसंयोगजः क्षकारः

Transliteration (IAST)

icchāyā eva trividhāyā ya ra lāḥ unmeṣāt vakāraḥ icchāyā eva trividhāyāḥ śa ṣa sāḥ visargāt hakāraḥ yonisaṃyogajaḥ kṣakāraḥ

— from Will, which is threefold ; — the semivowels y, r, l ; — from Unfolding, the phoneme v ; — the sibilants ś, ṣ, s ; — from the emission (visarga), the phoneme h ; — the phoneme kṣa, born from the union of the wombs

From Will, which is threefold, come the semivowels y, r, l; from Unfolding, the phoneme v; again from Will in its threefold form, the sibilants ś, ṣ, s; from the emission, the phoneme h; and from the union of the wombs is born the phoneme kṣa.
