siddhikāmasya dvitīyaturyapañcamāḥ sarvathā nirvartyāḥ ṣaṣṭhas tu mumukṣoḥ mukhyaḥ tasyāpi dvitīyādyā naimittike yathāsambhavam anuṣṭheyā eva vidhipūraṇārthaṃ ca

— for one desiring (occult) powers ; — the second, fourth, and fifth (modes) ; — are to be performed by all means ; — but the sixth is the principal one for the seeker of liberation ; — for him too the second and the rest ; — on an occasional (occasioned) rite ; — are to be performed as far as possible ; — for the sake of completing the rite

For one who desires powers, the second, fourth, and fifth modes are by all means to be carried out. But the sixth is the principal one for the seeker of liberation; for him too the second and the rest are to be performed, as far as possible, on an occasional rite, and for the sake of completing the procedure.
