20.59

अतत्त्वज्ञानी तु चर्यैकायत्तभोगमोक्षः समयोल्लङ्घने कृते प्रायश्चित्तम् अकुर्वन् वर्षशतं क्रव्यादो भवतीति इति प्रायश्चित्तविधिः वक्तव्यः तत्र स्त्रीवधे प्रायश्चित्तं नास्ति अन्यत्र तु बलाबलं ज्ञात्वा अखण्डां भगवतीं मालिनीम् एकवारात् प्रभृति त्रिलक्षान्तम् आवर्तयेत् यावत् शङ्काविच्युतिः भवति तदन्ते विशेषपूजा तत्रापि चक्रयागः स हि सर्वत्र शेषभूतः

Transliteration (IAST)

atattvajñānī tu caryaikāyattabhogamokṣaḥ samayollaṅghane kṛte prāyaścittam akurvan varṣaśataṃ kravyādo bhavatīti iti prāyaścittavidhiḥ vaktavyaḥ tatra strīvadhe prāyaścittaṃ nāsti anyatra tu balābalaṃ jñātvā akhaṇḍāṃ bhagavatīṃ mālinīm ekavārāt prabhṛti trilakṣāntam āvartayet yāvat śaṅkāvicyutiḥ bhavati tadante viśeṣapūjā tatrāpi cakrayāgaḥ sa hi sarvatra śeṣabhūtaḥ

— one without the knowledge of reality ; — whose enjoyment and liberation depend solely on observance ; — when a transgression of the observance has been committed ; — not performing the expiation ; — for a hundred years ; — a flesh-eating demon ; — for the slaying of a woman there is no expiation ; — having assessed the relative gravity (lit. strength and weakness) ; — the undivided (whole) goddess Mālinī (the mantra-rosary) ; — from a single time up to three hundred thousand ; — should repeat (recite) ; — until the falling-away of doubt ; — a special worship ; — the worship of the wheel ; — serving everywhere as the concluding remainder

But for one who lacks the knowledge of reality, whose enjoyment and liberation depend solely upon observance, when a transgression of the observance has been committed and he does not perform the expiation, he becomes a flesh-eating demon for a hundred years — so the procedure of expiation is to be declared. Therein, for the slaying of a woman there is no expiation; but in other cases, having weighed the relative gravity, one should recite the undivided goddess Mālinī, from a single time up to three hundred thousand, until doubt falls away. At its close there is a special worship, and in that too the worship of the wheel — for it everywhere serves as the concluding remainder.
