naimittikam jñānalābhaḥ śāstralābho gurutadvargagṛhāgamanaṃ tadīyajanmasaṃskāraprāyaṇadināni laukikotsavaḥ śāstravyākhyā ādimadhyāntā devatādarśanaṃ melakaṃ svapnājñā samayaniṣkṛtilābhaḥ ity etat naimittikaṃ viśeṣārcanakāraṇam
The occasional (occasions are): the attainment of knowledge, the obtaining of a scripture, the coming of the guru or his circle to one's house, the days of their birth, sacrament, and passing away, a worldly festival, the exposition of scripture at its beginning, middle, and end, a vision of the deity, an assembly, a command received in a dream, the obtaining of release from a pledge-breach — this occasional (set) is the occasion for special worship.
