वदामस्ते किं वा जननि वयमुच्चैर्जडधियो
न धाता नापीशो हरिरपि न ते वेत्ति परमम् ।
तथापि त्वद्भक्तिर्मुखरयति चास्माकममिते
तदेतत्क्षन्तव्यं न खलु पशुरोषः समुचितः ॥९॥
vadāmas te kiṃ vā janani vayam uccair jaḍa-dhiyo |
na dhātā nāpīśo harir api na te vetti paramam |
tathāpi tvad-bhaktir mukharayati cāsmākam amite |
tad etat kṣantavyaṃ na khalu paśu-roṣaḥ samucitaḥ ||9||

— we say; — of thee; — what; — indeed; — O Mother; — we; — aloud, presumptuously; — of dull intellect; — not; — Brahmā (the Creator); — not; — even; — Īśa (Śiva); — Hari (Viṣṇu); — even; — not; — of thee; — knows; — the supreme (nature); — and yet; — devotion to thee; — makes (us) speak; — and; — for us, our; — O Boundless One; — that; — this; — must be forgiven; — not; — indeed; — anger toward the bound creature; — fitting
O Mother, what indeed can we, the dull of intellect, presume to say of Thee? Brahmā does not know Thy supreme nature, nor Īśa, nor even Hari. Yet devotion to Thee makes even us, O Boundless One, speak. Therefore forgive what we say — for anger toward the bound creature is unbecoming.
